Windows 8 "irpstacksize" is too small Error for exteral shared Drive

I've been looking through this forum and not found a resolution to this error I'm getting in the log files below:

The server's configuration parameter "irpstacksize" is too small for the server to use a local device. Please increase the value of this parameter.

I can connect to a share I created on the c:\ drive titled \\JW-Win-8\Warez anytime I try to connect to a shared Drive using USB 3.0 I get invalid password errors on my PBO. I can access the shares from other PC's as well as my XBox 360 but no luck on the PBO.

I tried this method to no avail:

I suggest removing your antivirus software, then try to edit registry on your Windows 7 by these steps below:

1 Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2 Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\LanmanServer\Parameters

If the IRPStackSize entry is not present in this subkey, follow these steps:

1) Click Edit, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
2) Type IRPStackSize, and then press ENTER.

Note Type IRPStackSize exactly as it appears. The value name is case sensitive.

3 Click IRPStackSize, click Edit, and then click Modify.
4 In the Data Value box, type a larger value, and then click OK.

Looking through these forums I at least got to a shared folder from my C:\ drive by trying this:

gpedit.msc -> Computer configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options -> Network access: Shares that can be accessed anonymously

Do not enter the whole share path. In my case the share is \\Josh-Envy\Downloads
I added Downloads

Close gpedit
Open cmd prompt
Type gpupdate /force

I entered:

\\jw-win-8\warez
\\jw-win-8\warez2
\\jw-win-8\c
\\jw-win-8\e
\\jw-win-8\f
\\jw-win-8\g
\\jw-win-8\h
\\jw-win-8\i

Still being able to see them but get login errors.

I also tried this:

Go to:

1. "Control Panel"
2. "Network and Internet"
3. "Network and Sharing Center"
4. "Change advanced sharing" (on left hand column)
5. "Change sharing options for different profiles"

Make the Following changes:

Network discovery - Turn ON network discovery

File and printer sharing - Turn ON file and printer sharing

Public folder sharing - Turn OFF Public folder sharing (people logged on to this computer can still access these folders)

Media streaming - Media streaming is ON.

Filer sharing connections - Enable file sharing doe devices that use 40- or 56-bit encryption.

Password protected sharing - Turn OFF password protected sharing

HomeGroup connections - Allow Windows to manage homegroup connections (recommended)

Next, configure the folder you want to share:

1. Select the folder
2. Right-click and choose 'Share' from the menu
3. From the drop-down box select the Everyone (All users in this list) account, making sure permissions are set to 'Reader'
4. Click the buttons Add, Share and Done.

Here are some further registry 'tweaks' if this doesn't work:

WARNING: This requires editing your PC's registry which, if edited incorrectly, can cause Windows systems to become unstable and unusable.
Follow the instructions below at your own risk.
Patriot Memory Company is not responsible for any damage caused by following these steps.
Users assumes all responsibility when making registry changes.

1. Navigate to the following location in the registry editor (search regedit in the start button).
MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\
2. On the right side, double-click on 'everyoneincludesanonymous' and change the 'Value data' from '0' to '1'
3. Double-click on 'NoLmHash' and change the 'Value data' from '1' to '0'
4. Navigate to the following location in the registry editor:
MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManSe rver\Parameters
5. Double-click on 'restrictnullsessaccess' and change the 'Value data' from '1' to '0'
6. Close the registry editor

Finally, restart your PC.

Still only able to access share created on C:\ Drive

I only get the login failed error and this is the only error I see in the system log:

The server's configuration parameter "irpstacksize" is too small for the server to use a local device. Please increase the value of this parameter.

An Open Letter on Marketing Tech Essentials for B2B | Business 2 ...

Online business and businesses that are online are two different things.

Many traditionally trained marketers are struggling to convert what has worked for years in the offline world into the new online environments.

They are not the same ? how can you know what will work and what won?t work on the internet?

As a marketer, the things lacking or needing enhancement for most businesses are creating and re-using content and proactively driving it out to the right audience. If you are in new business development, your job is to take leads and educate prospects, filtering them so that they move up the sales funnel closer to a sale.

B2B comms for existing customers, in a nutshell, is badly planned and poorly executed in most businesses. Don?t be like the herd.

Businesses have different user and customer groups who should be communicated to differently ? because they need different things from you. Let?s give an example: your manufacturers and suppliers need different information from your customers and prospects; if you are trading internationally, the way you work in China probably isn?t the same as with your clients in USA or Europe.

8 tech essentials for B2B marketing

  1. How are you encouraging website visitors to join your mailing list? Building your own list and growing it is the second most important function of a business to business website. [Ask us what the first is.]
  2. After joining the list and signing up, what are you doing to drive the customer deeper into using the higher features of your products and services?
  3. Ongoing communications to prospects and clients are essential. What are the useful things you could be communicating with my business and are you delivering them in the channel that I prefer (clue ? this could include RSS, email, Linked In, Twitter direct message, a G+ community). Let the customer choose how she wants to hear from you.
  4. How could you be leveraging existing customers to drive improved new business using member-get-member referrals and other incentives?
  5. Autoresponders ? for new mailing list joiners you could have a ?guide? who is there for the reader, who acts as a signpost to helpful information inside your knowledge base, who helps check they?re getting what they need from your company. The guide would email the customer with helpful information that takes them deeper into the sales funnel and closer to a purchase.
  6. STOP using FeedBurner to distribute your RSS feed from the blog. It?s unsupported and you could be leveraging the channel for marketing messages to your active users in order to drive deeper brand engagement and possibly sales.
  7. Split out your blog into separate streams so that articles automatically send to different customer and prospect groups. Each would get articles designed for that audience. Create separate news feeds for different audiences, and further use them to drive marcoms to support your business growth goals
  8. The more you blog, the bigger your archive. Readers rarely dive very deep and yet there?s probably heaps of helpful content which is being ignored. Could they be re-created into ?tip sheets?, e-books, training manuals and other support material?

As you can see we are expert content marketers and our mantra is ?write once; use three times?. The benefit you?d get from collaborating with us is that you can implement all these internally, while still dipping into our expert coaching for strategy.

'Commitment-phobic' adults could have mom and dad to blame

Dec. 10, 2012 ? Afraid to commit to a relationship? According to new research from Tel Aviv University, it could be just one more thing to blame on your parents.

A study of the romantic history of 58 adults aged 22-28 found that those who avoid committed romantic relationships are likely a product of unresponsive or over-intrusive parenting, says Dr. Sharon Dekel, a psychologist and researcher at the Bob Shapell School of Social Work.

Dr. Dekel and her fellow researcher, Prof. Barry Farber of Columbia University, found that 22.4 percent of study participants could be categorized as "avoidant" when it came to their relationships, demonstrating anxiety about intimacy, reluctance to commit to or share with their partner, or a belief that their partner was "clingy," for example. Overall, they reported less personal satisfaction in their relationships than participants who were determined to be secure in their relationships.

The goal of the study, published in the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease, was to address the widespread research debate on "avoidant attachment" -- whether such behavior is due to innate personality traits, such as being more of a loner, or is a delayed reaction to unmet childhood needs. Dr. Dekel and Prof. Farber found that while both secure and avoidant individuals expressed a desire for intimacy in relationships, avoidant individuals are conflicted about this need due to the complicated parent-child dynamics they experienced when young.

Taking lessons from childhood

The premise of their study, says Dr. Dekel, is based on attachment theory, which posits that during times of stress, infants seek proximity to their caregivers for emotional support. However, if the parent is unresponsive or overly intrusive, the child learns to avoid their caregiver.

The researchers believe that adult relationships reflect these earlier experiences. When infantile needs are met in childhood, that person approaches adult relationships with more security, seeking intimacy, sharing, caring, and fun, says Dr. Dekel. The researchers labelled these relationships "two-adult" models, in which participants equally share desires with their partner. Avoidant individuals, however, are more likely to adopt an "infant-mother" intimacy model.

When they enter relationships, there is an attempt to satisfy their unmet childhood needs, Dr. Dekel explains. "Avoidant individuals are looking for somebody to validate them, accept them as they are, can consistently meet their needs and remain calm -- including not making a fuss about anything or getting caught up in their own personal issues."

The tendency to avoid dependence on a partner is a defense mechanism rather than an avoidance of intimacy, she adds.

Hope for the commitment-phobic?

It's important to study this group further because beyond their severely diminished ability to conduct satisfying romantic relationships, they are also less happy in their lives and are more likely to suffer illnesses than their secure counterparts, notes Dr. Dekel. Psychologists need a better understanding of what these insecure individuals need, perhaps through more sophisticated neurological studies, she suggests.

There is also the question of whether or not these attachment styles are permanent. Dr. Dekel believes that there are some experiences which can help people develop more secure relationship styles.

There are hints that after experiencing a traumatic event, survivors show a greater ability and desire to form closer relationships, Dr. Dekel observed in a previous study in the Journal of Psychological Trauma, completed during her post-doctoral work with Prof. Zahava Solomon. As an expert in the field of trauma recovery and post-traumatic growth who has worked with patients in Israel and abroad to overcome traumatic events, she is beginning to study this phenomenon in greater depth.

Today Pot Is Legal in Colorado - Hit & Run : Reason.com

Today Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper signed a proclamation recognizing last month's passage of Amendment 64, that state's marijuana legalization measure, meaning that all state penalties for possession of up to an ounce and home cultivation of up to six plants by adults 21 and older are abolished as of now. ?Voters were loud and clear on Election Day," Hickenlooper said. "We will begin working immediately with the General Assembly and state agencies to implement Amendment 64."

Hickenlooper was referring to the parts of the initiative calling for a state-regulated system of commercial production and distribution. The Colorado Department of Revenue has until next July to write regulations for growers and sellers. Hickenlooper has appointed a 24-member Task Force on the Implementation of Amendment 64 to assist with that process.

In the meantime, Colorodans can grow their own and transfer up to an ounce "not for remuneration." By contrast, pot smokers in Washington, where a marijuana legalization initiative took effect last Thursday, won't have a licit source until pot shops licensed by the state liquor control board are up and running (sometime after next December, the deadline for regulations). Mason Tvert, co-director of the Yes on 64 campaign, comments:

This is a truly historic day. From this day forward, adults in Colorado will no longer be punished for the simple use and possession of marijuana. We applaud Gov. Hickenlooper for issuing this declaration in a timely fashion, so that adult possession arrests end across the state immediately.?

We look forward to working with the governor's office and many other stakeholders on the implementation of Amendment 64. We are certain that this will be a successful endeavor and Colorado will become a model for other states to follow.

Yesterday Len Gilroy and Harris Kenny warned Colorado policy makers about potential pitfalls in implementing Amendment 64.

Stocks edge higher; Dow is boosted by McDonald's

NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks inched higher Monday on Wall Street after a strong sales report from McDonald's helped offset concerns about the surprise resignation of Italy's prime minister. Investors also waited for developments in crucial U.S. budget talks.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 29 points at 13,184 just after 1 p.m. EST. The Standard and Poor's 500 was up one point at 1,419. The Nasdaq composite was up six points at 2,984.

McDonald's rose $1.18 to $89.66. A key sales figure rose in November as U.S. customers bought more breakfast offerings and limited-time Cheddar Bacon Onion sandwiches.

Robert Pavlik, chief market strategist at Palm Beach, Fla.-based Banyan Partners, said the company's strength was encouraging. McDonald's, one of the 30 stocks in the Dow, was trading as high as $100 at the beginning of 2012.

The pickup in McDonald's sales, he said, gave investors something positive to focus on as Italy's sudden political turmoil sent a jolt through European markets.

Hewlett-Packard rose 30 cents to $14.23 and pushed the Dow higher. The has been battered in the past two months following a weak earnings outlook and a public spat with the founder of Autonomy, a company it acquired for $10 billion last year.

Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti, who has been credited with restoring confidence in the nation's economy, announced that he would step down after former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's party dropped its support for his government.

Italian government bond yields, a critical measure of how much the country has to pay to borrow, jumped. Concern that the European debt crisis was enveloping Italy, one of the euro region's largest economies, helped stymie markets around the world earlier in the year.

Investors were also following developments in budget talks in Washington. Tax increases and federal spending cuts start Jan. 1 unless a deal is reached to reduce the U.S. budget deficit. Economists say the measures, if implemented, could eventually push the economy back into recession.

The yield on the 10-year Treasury note was little changed at 1.63 percent.

President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner met at the White House on Sunday while rank-and-file Republicans stepped forward with what they called pragmatic ideas to break the stalemate. The Obama-Boehner meeting was the first between just the two leaders since Election Day.

"There's a pretty good belief that the 'fiscal cliff' can be avoided," said Craig Johnson, a technical market strategist at Piper Jaffray. "Anytime somebody is talking, it's a good thing."

Other stocks making big moves:

? Priceline.oom fell $33.90 to $625.10 after Deutsche Bank cut its recommendation on the stock to "hold" from "buy" and lowered its price target to $710 from $800.

? Phillips 66, the refining and pipeline company, gained $1.92 to $54.26 after saying late Friday that it was raising its quarterly dividend to 31.25 cents per share from 25 cents. The company also said it had approved the repurchase of another $1 billion in company stock, after approving the repurchase of $1 billion of shares during the first quarter.

? Intermec, a maker of barcode printers and radio frequency identification products, jumped $1.83 to $9.81 after it agreed to be acquired by Honeywell for about $603.4 million in cash.

? AIG fell 58 cents to $33.55 after it said late Friday that it will take $1.3 billion in losses related to Superstorm Sandy, more than other major insurance companies have reported so far.

Elephant Relocation Scheme Fails to Prevent Deaths

An attempt to save the lives of both elephants and people by moving the pachyderms away from humans has failed in Sri Lanka, a new study finds.

Instead of the relocated elephants living peacefully in their new homes, they wandered, researchers found. Relocated elephants died more often than problem elephants left in their original range. The relocated elephants also killed more people than elephants that stayed put.

"We were stunned that translocation neither solves the conflict nor saves elephants," study researcher Peter Leimgruber, a research scientist at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, said in a statement.

Relocating elephants

Elephant-human conflicts are a big problem, as an incident on Nov. 4 illustrates. On that day, a herd of elephants reportedly ransacked three houses in the village of Dumurkota, India, guzzling a shop's reserves of a local alcoholic brew called mahua. ??

In Sri Lanka, about 70 people and 200 Asian elephants die each year as a result of human-pachyderm conflict, according to the Smithsonian. A common solution is to move the elephants to protected areas, such as national parks. [Elephant Images: Largest Beasts on Land]

But a new study using GPS-enabled collars to track elephants found that relocating the animals did little good. The researchers followed 12 relocated male elephants and compared them with 12 male elephants left in their home ranges. All 24 elephants were "problem" elephants, meaning they had a history of conflict with humans.

Tragic ends

Two of the relocated elephants were killed in the national parks where they had been moved. The rest had wandered out of the park boundaries by 260 days after the release (some stayed around as little as a day). The wandering elephants either returned to their original range or settled somewhere new, but nearly all of them got tangled with humans again. Five of them died within eight months of the release. The relocated elephants were also responsible for killing five people in that time period.

The elephants left in their ranges didn't kill anyone, though one elephant was shot and killed.

There are only 35,000 to 50,000 Asian elephants left in the wild, making their conservation a priority. But conflicts stymie that goal, researchers said.

"As you track the elephants, you identify with these animals, you see their struggles and understand why they're doing the things that ultimately get them killed," Leimgruber said. "But you also understand that elephants represent a serious threat to humans and their livelihood."

The researchers suggest land-use plans that minimize crop-raiding might be more effective than moving elephants away.

Vietnam's Domain Registration Grows 172% Annually

In Vietnam, where research is still maturing, the publishing of white papers of any kind is a welcome surprise. The VNNIC, the center that monitors and issues domain names in the country, has released its latest research on internet growth in Vietnam. The paper coincides with 15 years of internet usage in Vietnam (by an official count), and the anniversary has also prompted research papers from other Vietnamese ministries.

Some of these statistics give an interesting picture of Vietnam?s internet population. The VNNIC?s numbers are a bit larger than those of the Ministry of Information and Technology, putting the number of netizens at 35.49 percent of the population. Thus with a population of 90 million, it?s no surprise that Vietnam is ranked 18th in the world in terms of internet users. But what is interesting is that it?s the regional leader in national website domain name registrations, or domains that end in ?.vn?. Here?s the growth:

As of October 2012, registered .vn domains had already hit 225,970 and it keeps accelerating.

As of the third quarter of this year, the number of national registered domain names with ?.vn? hit 225,970. Considering that the number of registered domains was just 14,786 in 2000, that puts the growth rate at about 172 percent per year. The total number of domains registered in the country (i.e. with .com, .com.vn, .edu, .org and so forth) is 836,173. At this rate, the number of domains will hit one million in the middle of next year.

So what does this tell us about Vietnam?s internet population? It means the country?s netizens want to produce; they want to create websites. I think this comes out of a need for connection. The young Vietnamese population is hungry for new ways to connect, and it?s no surprise that WeChat, the messaging app, has made such a strong entrance into the Vietnamese market with its ?Look Around? function, a feature that allows users to talk to random new people who are also online in the neighborhood.

It?s also good for business. Young Vietnamese businesses, with this same mentality, also see websites as a means to connect with potential users or customers. Unfortunately, the practice of developing valuable content is still something that needs to mature.

6 Mistakes To Avoid While Holiday Gift Shopping | Bankrate.com

Mistakes to avoid when shopping for gifts
Mistakes to avoid when shopping for gifts

Everyone has secrets during the holidays, from the best places in the house to hide the presents to how to get the best parking spot at the mall.

So how about a few tips to help you save time, money and stress when you shop?

Money, shopping and credit experts share six of the common mistakes consumers make when they shop for the holidays -- with their best tips for avoiding those pitfalls this year.

Blunder No. 1: Shopping without planning
Blunder No. 1: Shopping without planning

"The No. 1 mistake that people make is not planning," says Stephanie Nelson, author of "The Greatest Secrets of the Coupon Mom" and founder of CouponMom.com. Even if you're going out at the last minute, "you can sit down and plan before you go out."

Without a shopping plan, you are in danger of overpaying and overbuying, she says. You might buy too much, or you and your spouse might both buy items for Aunt Mabel when you intended to give her one gift.

And, especially if you're shopping at the last minute with no plan, "Price goes out the window," she says. "You're just happy you can get it."

A little planning ahead of time -- no matter where you are in the season -- "will save money," says Nelson.

Blunder No. 2: Skipping coupons
Blunder No. 2: Skipping coupons

Most shoppers associate coupons with the grocery store or maybe the big-box store down the street. But all kinds of retailers use them, and they can save you a chunk of money at the holidays.

"When it comes to retail shopping, there are a few places to look for coupons that don't take much time," Nelson says.

Designate a spot for those packs and coupon fliers you get in the mail, says Nelson, who uses a shoebox in her kitchen. "So when I decide to go to the mall, everything's right there."

Before heading to the mall, shopping center or outlet plaza, visit its website, she recommends. "Believe it or not, a lot of malls have coupons and promotions on the mall's website."

Shopping online? Before you click the "buy" button, open a second screen, and search the retailer's name with the word "coupon."

Blunder No. 3: Not comparing prices
Blunder No. 3: Not comparing prices

Want the best price on an item? These days, a variety of bots and apps will do the heavy lifting for you.

Services such as Amazon's Price Alert will take the make and model of your item and notify you of any price changes, Nelson says. Many stores offer to match a competitor's price if you can present a flier or printed page showing the lower price, she says.

Another way to save: price-guarantee programs. If you buy an item and the price drops within a specific time (often limited periods such as 10 days, two weeks or one month), you can show your receipt and recoup the difference, Nelson says.

Often these policies are not widely publicized, Nelson says. Your best source is the store's website.

Shopping online? Before you buy, use sites such as NexTag.com, MegaShopBot.com and Google.com/shopping to compare prices, says Mary Hunt, founder of DebtProofLiving.com and author of "7 Money Rules for Life."

Also, FreeShipping.com "keeps track of which sites are offering free shipping on which days," Hunt says.

Blunder No. 4: Not taking ads to stores
Blunder No. 4: Not taking ads to stores

Is your favorite store advertising a sale on an item on your holiday list? Cut out that ad, and look for two things in the fine print: the dates of the sale and the items that are not included, says Daniel Butler, vice president of retail operations for the National Retail Federation.

Too many times, shoppers remember the ad but not the store -- and wind up in the wrong place, he says. Or they get to the register and don't realize that while most of the department is discounted, a few key items are not included.

But clipping the ad, you'll have a physical reminder of when to go and what to focus on, he says. And if there are any related coupons, you'll have those handy, too.

Blunder No. 5: Buying incompatible tech pieces
Blunder No. 5: Buying incompatible tech pieces

A few years ago, all you had to do to make sure a tech gift worked was include the right batteries. Not anymore.

Not every app is compatible with every kind of tablet or smartphone, says Augie Grant, professor at the University of South Carolina and editor of "Communication Technology Update and Fundamentals." Even some gift cards for music or movies are not totally generic, he adds.

So before you buy an accessory, DVD or gift certificate to an app store, you need to know a little about the machine on which the recipient will be using it, he advises.

Buying someone a movie? "Blu-ray discs are common, but not everyone has a Blu-ray player," Grant says. So, "Unless (the) person has a Blu-ray player, it won't do them any good."

Likewise, accessories that work with one brand of smartphone won't necessarily work with other brands -- or even earlier versions of the same brand, Grant says.

Blunder No. 6: Opening lines of credit
Blunder No. 6: Opening lines of credit

"If you're worried about your (credit) score, skip those on-the-spot credit offers," says Anthony Sprauve, spokesman for myFico.com, a division of credit scoring company FICO.

"That 10 (percent) to 15 percent (discount for opening a new card) is canceled out by the 18 (percent) to 20 percent APR if you carry a balance," Sprauve says. "Every time you apply for credit, your score takes a small hit that will stay with you for a year. You're really not saving money."

And if you conclude that those extra lines are necessary to finance the holidays?

"That's a sign that you need not to just rein in the shopping, but to rein in this gathering of credit," says Todd Mark, vice president of education for Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Dallas.

Not only can it "be very harmful to your credit and your score," says Mark, but it's a sign you're "stretched beyond your means and may be stretching yourself even further."

Why Mobile Gaming Companies Are Anything But Screwed ...

At least for right now, mobile games still rule the app world.

New research released by analyst firm Canalys shows that 24 of the 25 top grossing developers in the leading app stores are gaming companies.

Specifically, out of 700,000 apps in the world, Canalys found that 25 star developers accounted for about 50% of total app store revenue ($60 million of $120 million) during the first 20 days of November. All but one of those top developers were game developers.

The leaders included Zynga, Electronic Arts, Disney, Kabam, Rovio, Glu, Gameloft and Storm8?s TeamLava.

"Part of the story here is that successful game developers almost invariably have multiple titles generating revenue," Canalys VP and Principal Analyst Chris Jones said in a release. "Zynga, for example, had 15 titles in the list of top 300 grossing iPhone apps on average in Apple?s App Store every day, and nine titles in the equivalent list in the Google Play store."

Of the top 300 paid apps in the App Store, games accounted for 145 of them. Likewise, games accounted for 116 of the top 300 paid apps in the Google Play store.

In fact, if you're not a gaming company, your app may struggle.

"With top game developers? content so prevalent in the stores, it can be hard for other good quality apps to get the attention they deserve," says Canalys' senior analyst, Tim Shepard. "Developers of other kinds of apps need to consider how to promote them."
